About The Area

Cave Run Lake Area

Picturesque Cave Run Lake, on the Licking River, was constructed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers primarily as a flood control project. Construction was completed in 1969 and the project became operational in 1974 providing flood protection to the lower Licking River valley.

The 8,270 acre lake is almost entirely within the boundaries of the Daniel Boone National Forest. Most of the acquired land was transferred to the Forest Service for development and management.

Cave Run Lake is known as the Muskie fishing capitol of the south and offers an abundance of fishing, boating, skiing and swimming.
